BdayBusters!

Having a birthday?
Who ya gonna call?
BdayBusters!!!

Around my birthday in 1976, I accompanied Josie to a bar in Cupertino.
Being the obedient puppy dog we all know I have always been, whatever Jo would tell me to do, I did without question
Little did I know that she was scheming with Jerrell to bring me to this place in Cupertino
After saying my “Hello”'s to the “regulars”, Josie took me to the exit door leading to the back area.
As we walked in, a crowd began shouting “Surprise!” and “Happy Birthday!”
They actually managed to throw a surprise party for me
Awesome!
The Dirty Butter Jug Band, from Santa Cruz, provided the music
Philly Cheese-steaks, from Glenn and Mike
And a huge birthday cake made for one of the best birthdays ever

Later in that year I moved to The Great Highway
I recognized my new home as a great place to throw parties
My first birthday party in San Francisco was planned and conducted by me
Every year since then, I was the planner
I decided what day, or days.
I did the inviting
Having so much fun with my own, I began planning my friends birthday parties.

I had a lot of success, with my own birthday and with others
Most of my friends would defer to me on how to celebrate birthdays
I saw myself as becoming dogmatic about the celebrations
I wanted it done in a particular way
So I did it
I have painted myself into a situation where no one else does the planning
I am too tired, and maybe too old, to try and keep topping myself
I am also too stubborn and to opinionated to be amenable to other peoples ideas

This is not an issue that bothers me
I have lost NO sleep over this
I just don't feel like doing any more than what I am going to do
What am I going to do?
I don't know
Maybe have a party
Maybe not

I am very happy that my actual birthday is on a weekday
I've been invited to celebrate with a small (4 of us) gathering at my favorite “fancy” restaurant, Boulevard
I have other invitations, which I am gladly accepting so I can stretch celebrating my 69th birthday over the next few weeks

But what about the party?
In my last email, I was considering a chili feed this weekend (6/23-24)
I am no longer considering it
I welcome anyone who wants to stop by this weekend (unlike most weekends when I dig a moat around the house)
If when you arrive and we decide to build some chili - cool
If we order pizza - that too would be cool
If we do nothing - I will have 68+ years of experience to call upon

If anything happens, it should be between Noon to 8PM on Saturday and the same on Sunday
You will only be admitted before Noon with baked goods
And you will be allowed to remain after 8PM if you have a good bedtime story

The one factor that makes this easy for me is that next year, it's 70
That is cause for a major celebration
So we have lottsa time to plan
